The Meijers Committee’s Comment and recommendations on the review of the safe third country concept under the Asylum Procedure Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1348)

With this comment, the Meijers Committee responds to the European Commission’s proposed targeted amendments regarding both the connection criterion and the automatic suspensive effect of appeals in the context of the review of the “safe third country” concept under the Asylum Procedure Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1348) (APR). By placing this proposal against the backdrop of existing fundamental rights concerns arising from the safe third country concept under the APR, the Meijers Committee emphasises the cumulative impact on fundamental rights.
