Note on the EU law aspects of PNR in public transport
The PNR Directive (2016/681) entered into force on May 24, 2016, and EU Member States have two years to implement the directive. An international official working group from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom is currently discussing the expansion of PNR data to other forms of public transport, such as international trains, international buses and maritime transport. The Meijers Commission hereby sends a note with considerations of the EU legislation that should be taken into account when deciding on such an extension.
