Poland<\/a> about the suspension of a judge of the Elbl\u0105g District Court by decision of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>On 28 and 29 June, the Grand Chamber of th CJEU is to hear 6 cases concerning the Rule of Law in Poland. All hearings will be live-streamed via the CJEU website. Reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RULEOFLAWpl\/status\/1529743348315172864\">Rule of Law in Poland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>EU DEVELOPMENTS<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The European Commission presented a proposal to curb the rise of strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPPs) in Europe. It includes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A proposal for a<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/proposal-directive-strategic-lawsuits-against-public-participation-slapp_en\">\u00a0directive\u00a0<\/a>limited to civil law proceedings with a cross-border nature<\/li>\n<li>A<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/sites\/default\/files\/1_1_188781_recc_slapp_en_1.pdf\"> recommendation\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/digital\/news\/european-commission-presents-directive-to-tackle-abusive-lawsuits-against-journalists-ngos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Euractiv<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The European Parliament has called on the Commission to systematically analyze data on non-compliance with judgements from the ECtHR. Full text adopted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/TA-9-2022-0212_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>SLOVENIA<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>At the end of April national elections were held in Slovenia, where the previous centre-right Jan\u0161a government, was often criticised for having used the Covid-pandemic as a pretext to curtail personal freedoms and attack independent institutions such as the judiciary and the media. The outcome of the vote marked a shift toward a more progressive government, which, as far as the rule of law is concerned, will have to deal with issues like corruption, media freedom and SLAPPs. Read more at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/short_news\/slovenian-public-broadcaster-journalists-to-stage-strike\/?utm_source=piano&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=21314&amp;pnespid=77xiViFeMqMfgvTQ.22qAo6D5EOjRsp0KvK2nvd49xRmaGj2dub8aUpxWTN9X2eTKtyDFtMl.w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Euractive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>HUNGARY<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>On 27th April the Commission officially sent a written notification to Hungary because of concerns over persistent misuse of EU funds that \u2018affect or seriously risk affecting\u2019 the management of EU funds. According to the procedure foreseen in the Conditionality Regulation, when the Member state receives written communication, it provides the required information and may propose or adopt remedial measures to address the Commission\u2019s findings set out in the written notification within a time limit specified by the Commission, which can be between one and three months from the date of the notification. Hungary will have a two-month deadline to reply to the letter. On the same day, Orb\u00e1n used the powers granted by the amendment to proclaim a state of emergency. These involve abolishing the Disciplinary Camber, reforming the Disciplinary system and reinstating judges before the end of June, but also foresee economic and systemic reforms.
